Insignificant Content

With so many blogs already online and more appearing every day, it’s hard differentiate your content and build credibility. In my opinion, perception around the quality of blog content has decreased significantly as the utter mass continues to grow at an astonishing rate. In other words, quantity is overtaking quality.

With so many options available, even within a given niche, readers are forced to skim over content to stay abreast. Content provided by small blogs is becoming a dime-a-dozen. The ability to build loyalty and become a part of a reader’s daily routine is becoming increasingly difficult.

I’m a firm believer that as the blogosphere continues to swell out of control, the publishing trend will come full circle and readers will begin to turn to trusted, traditional sources such as newspapers, online magazines, and well-known, established blogs. These ‘professional publications’ tend to use accredited writers who produce quality content numerous times per day, saving the reader time and effort. They also tend to get the big stories and exclusives first.

Early in the evolution of the blog world, publishers chose to write to propagate ideas and generate conversation. Now it seems that most blogs have ulterior motives such as monetization or brand proliferation.

Am I proposing that people stop reading smaller blogs? Obviously not. I’m simply stating that I see a trend moving in the opposite direction. A healthy dose of niche content will always be needed. Just be selective and ensure that the content is worth your time. After all, we only have a certain amount of time in our day and it must be allocated wisely.
